Thanksgiving Day 2019

Thanksgiving Day 2019

Besides Nicholas's recent tonsillectomy, the day was perfect.
Oliver and Christian woke up early for the annual
Turkey Bowl with neighbors and church friends.
I woke up and spray painted my candles gold,
and started the slow-cooker potatoes.
Casually the girls woke up and one by one came down
the stairs and began helping me prepare the feast.

Lottie contributes to the table by spray painting a few rocks and
leaves and twigs. And she made some amazing place settings.

I assigned each child (except Gigs) to help me make a dish.
They each helped out and each dish was delicious!

The day was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen in North Carolina.
It was chilly and windy but sunny and colorful.

Lottie spent most of the day rollerskating around the kitchen.
I loved it!  It wasn't inconvenient at all!
I made the boys take her outside to skate for a
few minutes so I could have some space.
This year I got each person in the family their own
unique animal Spode dinner plate.
It was a fun personalized way to honor each guest at the table.
Except Lottie didn't want to be the bunny and stole the fox plate
from Jane.  That caused a few tears and Jane was kind enough to
trade her for the day.  We will have to sort that out for next year.

Nielson Thanksgiving Feast:
Crispy Brussels Spouts
Lindsay's rolls
Marshmallow Sweet Potatoes
Grandmas Frog-eye Salad
Kale and Roasted Cauliflower Salad
Slow-cook Mashed Potatoes
Classic Pumpkin Pie
Silk Chocolate Pie
Mulled Cider
Personal Grape Bubblie

After dinner we sat around the table enjoying the soft candlelit
conversation.  Mostly we talked about Christmas
and how many more days until break!
We ate more pie and I passed around hot cider.
