Act 1 Christmas beginnings

Christmas is over, and it is time for my report.
Christmas in Utah was as magical-just as it was when I was little.
My Mother decorated my old room for the girls; Christmas Madame Alexander dolls
filled the built in shelves in my mothers cape cod home.
There were authentic Norwegian trolls that my dad brought
home with him from his mission years ago.
In the corner near the window sat a darling little pine tree lit up,
and the bed was covered in cozy red flannel and red candy cane striped pillow cases and I can guarantee you the girls did in fact did have sugarplums dance in their heads.
The whole house was beautiful!
While we were there, my dad made a fire every night, and
Christian made us vanilla soy peppermint hot chocolate.
A favorite night was late one evening after Christian and I put the children to bed,
we got in the hot tub then after then lay in our bed watching
the snow fall quietly from the pink sky above.
I will never forget that memory, probably ever.
Oliver got a Ricky Carmichael motorcycle.
He really loves it.
Santa Claus left the girls beach cruisers.
Claire got a white one and Jane pink.
No training wheels for Christians little girls because he
is bound and determined to teach them to ride without...good luck honey!
Oliver got a silver bullet cruiser that he likes to tell others not to touch,
look at, or ride.  And he won't either.  But Nicholas loves it. Kinda.
I gave Christian a watch with barometric somethings or other
(to assist him when he begins his pilots license).
OH there is more, lots more to come...this is just ACT 1 of the Nielson Christmas!

This is Norma.

Today was Norma's baptism day.
I was there when Norma kneeled down and said her first prayer.
I was there to wrap my arms around her with a towel after she was baptized.
I am so honored to have seen her go through this 3 month journey into the

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

(Norma's 12 year old daughter

Ashley also was baptized this day.)

Jolly old Saint Nicholas

I took you to get your 2 month check-up yesterday
And you now weigh almost 16 pounds
But that is why you are so adorable.
Thank you for sleeping through the night.
It is much appreciated!
I love you Mr. Nicholas!

Every year I choose colors for wrapping gifts.
Christmas colors this year:
Red, blue, green and white.

I used these fancy glitter flowers and tied silver bells to the tags.
The girls made their own Christmas cards this year using
colorful pom poms.

If you look extra close in this picture,

You will see a frito glued to Jane's piece of orange paper.

Its all in the details folks!

Yesterday 5 years ago...

It was 5 years ago that my sister-in-law Charity died.
Yesterday I met Christian at the cemetery with the children.
I was really sad.
I was sad for her son Jonah who wont know his mother in this life.
I was sad for Christian, who after 5 years still gets choked up every time we sing
"There is a green hill far away"
in church. (the song we sang at her funeral)
At the cemetery he told me his "heart hurt" that made me sad.
I was talking to Christian on the phone on the way to the cemetery and after I hung up I announced to the children that we were going to visit Charity at her grave.
Jane said to me:
"Mom, Charity has a phone in her grave"
Jane thought I was on the phone with Charity, who apparently has a
phone in her grave.
I think Charity would have thought that was really funny.
I did.

An evening with the Godparents

Yesterday evening we went with the childrens Godparents to take family photos for Christmas.

Then we went to a darling restaurant to have guacamole veggie burgers and homemade fries. Followed up with brownie fudge sundaes and candy sticks (thanks Andrew)

Reachel and I rode home together and chatted about Christmas traditions and how to feel confidant in listing to the spirit whisper so quietly in our lives while Claire and Jane sang 'All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth' really loud in the back seat.
Christian drove with Andrew in their new Mini they had made in England then shipped to Oregon over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Then we went to see Reachels Christmas tree.

Reachel works at Anthropologie.

Now can you imagine what her Christmas tree looks like?

Antique Christmas

I decided this year to give my mother and sisters antiques for Christmas (since that is what I would like...Isn't that funny that we do that?) I know that on Christmas morning when they find my humble gift under the tree they are going to say:

What the @#$% is that?

Anyway, on my trip to get the goods at my favorite stinky antique "plaza" I found vintage ornaments. I have always loved the look of the older ornaments,

some with cracks and discoloring.

I looked up my box of 'Shiny Brite' ornaments online and WOW!

And then I came across this lil beauty for $2.50. I (for some reason) have always wanted one of these milky glass hands to adorn my blings.

Merry Christmas to those of you who get to enjoy my antique "whim" and to myself who got some special Christmas goods.
