Summer storms.

Yesterday afternoon the clouds gathered covering the sun and making
the neighborhood dark, then the wind started to blow the trees.
Then the thunder rumbled, and all my dreams were coming true!
I began dinner as the dark clouds covered the sky.
The enchiladas I had made were in the oven for 7 minutes
 when the power shut off.
Then it flickered back on.  Then off.  Then on for a few minutes
until finally, the power was off for good.
There was nothing else to do but go outside, sit on the porch
and watch the boys ride their bikes in the summer storm.
Claire pulled out her camera to film the moment.

Then the rain began; first little drops, then
buckets, and it didn't stop for hours.
As it got darker, we came inside and, over a candlelit dinner, ate lukewarm
enchiladas and sizzling shishito peppers (the gas range still worked).

Outside, the thunder cracker and the lightning flashed in our windows.
It was pretty cozy, and when the lights finally came on
we all booooooooooed because pretending to be pioneers was kind of fun.
Then Nicholas blew the candles out,
Oliver popped popcorn then they sat down to watch Indiana Jones.
So much for that.
