Iman Friday/On a Wing and a Prayer.

I have a friend and her name is Iman. We have something in common.
Both of our husbands want wings.
Iman is a Muslim living in Seattle with her three children and cute husband Monem.
Monem really wanted his private pilots license, so he began the process. In the post-9/11 world, the words “Muslim” and “airplane” remain, for many people, a scary combination. The result is “On a Wing and a Prayer: An American Muslim Learns to Fly,” a 60-minute documentary that has won several awards and is scheduled to appear soon on numerous PBS stations across the country. Check out clips to and showing listings here.

Iman wants her children to see family and keep up with the Arabic. She packed up the family, kissed Monem وداعا (goodbye in Arabic) and she was off. After 22 hours (plus)of traveling and a six hour layover in New York she finally made it to
Jordan where she stayed with a family member.
Iman just e-mailed me the frustrating details of her family
crossing the border into Israel. It was quite an ordeal.

Every Friday I am going to post Iman and her experiences living in Jerusalem for the summer.
Chapter ONE:

"Hi Stephanie, I have finally made it to Israel, after being interrogated at the checkpoint by the Isreali army that guards it.
It had to be the most humiliating thing I have ever been through. As an American you think you are somewhat immune to some things but I guess when your parents are Palestinian that doesn't matter."

Well you know Iman, it IS Friday the 13th!!!!!! (dun dun dun)

Iman in Israel: chapter TWO next week.

Have a lovely weekend.
